A to Z Challenge Day 4

Day 4 – The Letter D:

Today I thought I would comment on my family surname: Dinnis.  I began my search through my family history trying to find out the origins of the Dinnis name, but soon became far more caught up with the lives of the actual people I was finding on my path.  I am glad to have quite an original name, it’s made it so much easier as I search online and trawl through the ancestry websites.  As I have searched, some of the documents have been written as ‘Dennis’ but on the whole there haven’t been too many ‘Dinnis’s’ that aren’t somehow connected to myself.

So far on the Dinnis trail I have found some lovely people, we share great-grandparents, uncles etc and are hoping to meet up soon.  I would also like to offer my encouragement to anyone doing the ‘ancestry thing’ who have surnames that are not as unusual as mine.

About Jackie Dinnis

Welcome to my blog where I am enjoying meeting my family - past and present - one at a time. Join me as I learn who my ancestors were, where they lived, what their occupations were and what everyday life was like for them.

  1. When I started researching my ARTHUR line I thought it would be so easy. I thought it was “unusual”. Big surprise for me when I learned how not unusual it is! But I persevere and have found many wonderful people and even some “lost” cousins I wrote about.
