A to Z Challenge Day 5

Day 5 – The Letter E:

Engagement Ring

I’ve been looking at the story of my parents engagement as part of my family history blog and I’ve found out a few things I didn’t know before.  I found the receipt for the ring and see it was bought in Saqui & Lawrence Ltd, North Street, Brighton.  The date is September the 24th 1947, and looking back at my father’s Record of Service, Soldier’s Release Book and Certificate of Transfer to The Army Reserve it appears he was only released from the Army in March 1947.  Before that time he was in Italy with the Royal Army Pay Corps.  I know that my parents met through a brother of my mother.  He was also serving in the same regiment as my father, and he introduced them and they began writing to one another.

The ring is beautiful, and typical of that era, and I have also included a photo of my parents that must have been taken around that time although there is no date on it.
