Pontins – Sporting Autographs

On our holidays at Pontins Holiday Camps we enjoyed the occasional visits from sporting stars.  As I have previously written, my parents were very keen table tennis players and their joy was made complete by seeing Chester Barnes and Trevor Taylor one year.  Now you may not remember them, but they were big names in table tennis in the late 1960s and early 1870s, just at the time we were on holiday.  Chester Barnes (whose real name was George) had won the Men’s Singles at the English National Table Tennis Championships in 1962 1963 1964 1970 and 1973; Trevor Taylor won in 1971 and 1972 and they won the Men’s Doubles in 1970.

We also were fortunate enough to see the snooker player Ray Reardon, I got his autograph and Dad queued up to get his photo taken with the star.
