Dora Doswell gets married

It’s been a while since I was last here … computer problems, sigh. So to refresh our memories, the last we heard of Edith Cleeve was in 1925, when we looked at some photographs with her daughter, Dora. Continuing on from there …

On April 21st 1932 Edith Dora Doswell (Dora) married Frederick Augustus Ashbolt. The wedding took place in Basingstoke, and below you can see a photograph of this family occasion.

We know a little of Frederick’s life. He was born in South Stoneham, Hampshire in 1906, and in 1911 he was living here with his parents George and Ellen and his three brothers James, Herbert and Gorden. Another two children had been born, but had died.

Looking at the photograph, and comparing it with others that we have we can see Dora’s parents standing beside her on the right of the photograph, along with Edith’s sister Olive. To the left of Frederick are Reginald Blight and Grace (Edith’s youngest sister). Grace and Reg would marry in 1936.

Here is another photograph of Dora with her mother, Edith.
