There is so much to be gained from going over the same things again. I nearly always find something new when I revisit a photo. One of the photographs I have been looking at recently had a big question mark on the reverse. It was this photograph.
It looked familiar, and going through previous scanned photos I found this one.
On the back of this photo is written ‘Elsie’s Cottage 1923’. The ‘Elsie’ in question is Elsie Lilian Julia Dinnis, her mother Catherine Taylor Dinnis is sitting on the chair. So, as the lady in the first photo looks just like Elsie, and the building looks to be the same from what we can see of the doorway, I have decided the lady in the first photo is Elsie!
I guess both photos were taken on the same day, as Elsie is wearing the same dress. I was searching for what else was going on in 1923, to match up with this photo, and suddenly realised my father, Gordon Charles Dinnis was born in that year! Catherine was his grandmother, Elsie his aunt. Elsie is my grandfather’s sister, so she would be my grand-aunt.
So, just when I thought I’d finished this piece of research rather quickly …. I looked through the photographs again and found another one in the ‘random’ category. No information on it at all.
The ladies look like Catherine Taylor and maybe the one on the right could be Elsie? I really don’t know, and when you don’t know it allows your imagination to run free! Catherine has her hands on the young man, Elsie (if it is Elsie) looks grim. I zoomed in.
I don’t think I’ve finished my detective work on this photo yet. I need to go through some more photographs to try to identify the gentleman. I also have another photo here that I think might link in with my findings.
I think the lady looks a little like Elsie!
I must do some more hunting, I’ll let you know how I get on!
