Today I began a distance learning course in genealogy. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for some time but have just found the right course for me.
I’ve done a bit of studying in the past ten years. I completed a foundation degree at the University of Sussex. This amazed me, I had no idea I could focus and study in this way.
I decided correspondence courses would work well for me. I studied with the Open University for a while, learning creative writing. I love writing, and this helped me get published in Family History magazines.
The past couple of years have seen me a little bit lost. I have found that I struggle to remember things and to get my mind to focus for a length of time. It seemed to me that some study would be the ideal solution and would help me get my mind back in gear.
Looking for something that interests me was easy, my life has been full of family history for a few years now and I’ve noticed that the more you learn about a subject, the more there is to learn.
So, an exciting parcel arrived this morning and I have now entered the world of study once again. I’m so happy to do this, it makes me feel more alive and I feel I have chosen a subject that will be useful to me in the future. I hope I will learn things that I can really use as I proceed on my quest to find my family and to write about it.
I am excited. I know I am doing the right thing for me, at this time in my life.
