I love September with the days getting slightly cooler and shorter making it feel like the start of something. In the mornings as I enjoy a cup of tea I hear children heading off to school, happy to be going back after the summer holiday. There are primary and secondary schools around me, and as it’s easy to pick out the one’s going to ‘big school’ for the first time.
The uniforms are so smart and everything looks so new! It reminds me of the time I went off to Westlain Grammar School for the first time in 1969.
The new uniform had been bought during the summer, there seemed to be no end to the clothes that I needed. Above you can see just some of it, there was also a lot of P.E. kit – track suit, leotard, netball skirt etc. You can also see the rabbit hutch, in our back garden! Mum always knew how to frame a photo nicely!
The best thing about this time of year was getting my stationery together, new school satchel, pencil-case, pen, pencils. This hasn’t gone away, and for me, September means a celebration of a New Year.
I always buy a mid-year diary, I enjoy the start of a new football season (which seems to get earlier each year, this time it began at the start of August) and I always try to begin some study. It reminds me of going back to school.
This year I am beginning a genealogy course, which will be studied using distance learning. I am also starting another course with WordPress. Writing 101 is taking place during September, and will hopefully improve my writing.
So Happy New Year everyone!
