It’s Day Six of Writing 101 and the challenge is to think about the space you need in order to write. I find it worthwhile to think about my writing habits – when do I write, where do I write, what do I need in order to write? In case you are interested, I write here!
There are three places I write, and they’re all in this picture. I usually sit in the white armchair, with my laptop, and type. That’s where I am now, sometimes I have the television on, or the radio, but I’m never watching or listening, it’s just background noise.
There’s a brown wooden desk in the back of the room, and sometimes I sit here and write. This is where I write with a pen and notepad. When I sit here I prefer to write in silence, it’s the space I use when I need to really concentrate on things. When I’m going through my ancestry files and need to keep track of a certain individual, tracing them through the English Census documents.
Then there’s a light brown wooden table right at the back of the room, and this is where I sit to do my creative writing. I usually turn the table around and sit looking out of the back window. I need silence here also, and usually a cup of coffee.
I seem to find it easiest to write in the mornings, so I try to have a list ready and waiting for me, and work my way through it as best I can. I do write at other times of the day, but it’s the mornings when I can rely on getting some work done.
I need silence for most of my writing, so I can concentrate. I’m not one of those people who work best in coffee shops, although I do often try! I get too sidetracked by people watching!
The next part of the task for today is to include a ‘Poll’ in this post, and ask you please to vote. The poll is in preparation for a future post. I need to gather ideas about what to write. I would be very grateful if you could spare the time to vote.
